I have learned to read
the morning sunlight
like the moods of a lover.
From my bed,
under a quilted comforter,
with the AC wafting, I peek:
purple blue (more sleep),
aqua blue (little more),
white yellow (time to rise).
I make my bed, start the kettle,
and begin my day.
On my sons’ side of the world,
it is yesterday. Both adults
living with their mom.
My hope is that when
they eventually sleep and
then awake, they are
greeted by the same light
that I enjoyed.
